I've had a couple of folks ask me for reading recommendations so far this summer, so I figured I'd write some down and ask you guys what you'd recommend.

I have been in a long standing trend (rut?) of reading urban fantasy lately, so a lot of my suggestions will probably lean that way. :)

1.) Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson - I recommended this to Zader, it's a classic.
2.) The Mercy Thompson Series, Book 1 is Moon Called by Patricia Biggs - A shapeshifter coyote mechanic and some werewolves, what could go wrong?
3.) The October Daye Series, Book 1 is Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire - The Fae are still amongst us, and would rather we not know about it. Toby is a halfling who just spent 10 years as a goldfish due to being cursed.
4.) The Jane Yellowrock Series, Book 1 is Skinwalker by Faith Hunter - Jane is a skinwalker, which as far as every vampire knows, is extinct. And they want it to stay that way.

What are you guys reading and loving?

The Kingkiller Chronicles: The Name of the Wind + The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss.

A friend turned me on to TNotW and I tore through it in a few days, pre-ordered TWMF, tore through that in 2 days, and I've been waiting anxiously for the third and final installment to the trilogy. If you're a fan of fantasy, but elves and magic wands aren't doing it for you anymore, this is a good series. The next book is due some time in 2014-15.

Oh other ideas, slightly less urban fantasy, more sword-y and macho-y :)

The Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan
The Sword of Truth Series by Terry Goodkind

A series of books by Anne Rice about The Mayfair Witches rather than the normal Vampire books.

1) The Witching Hour
2) Lasher
3) Taltos

Very interesting if you are into the Occult.

Ready Player One - Ernest Cline

I reviewed it on the front page and is the most geek-friendly book on the planet, well worth a read especially if you remember the 80s' fondly and fits in with urban fantasy well, so Chao, you need this in your life :)

Also, if you're into Doctor Who check out Shada, it's written from a script by Douglas Adams who wrote Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, I'm reading that one right now

and....

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams.
