A statue comes to life, confronts the party

Conversation with statue continues…it agrees to tentatively join us. Name is Quesrik.

The party goes down the stairs, finding an older, unrelated temple.

After the party kills the giant spider, Mittenz heals the near death Meep by beating her over the head with a wand.

April 16, 2016
Playing: WarMarshall, NarcanGoat, Doragon, Mace Ironhead, Creepiz, Karlith, Kurst
Time: 12:32-5:25

<continuing from last session>
The Party deals with spiders….like oh my god so many giant spiders

New friend Quesrik finds a door to a room, but it is locked.

Party moves north and finds more spiders. They charge the party. Nahsawghee gets grabbled by a spider and wrapped in webbing. Threatened, the spider takes the wolf further into its den.

The party advances and finds Nahsawghee has been eaten by the mother spider, a huge creature. After Kyur’gan, Aekrom and Meep rush into the chamber, the Mother Spider immobilizes them all in a web. The Badger (Jiggles) and Hingi proclaim “we got this” and rush in….only to realize the enormity of their task. Meep uses Kyur’gan to set fire to the webs, catching them both ablaze, while the Spider takes a massive bite out of Jiggles.

They finally manage to free themselves. Aekrom and Kyur’gan go after one of the smaller spiders, while Meep runs to the drained and broken body of her wolf, crying even as she burns alive. Eventually Quesrik will heal her. But not before the rest of the party takes down the Mama Spider.

Finally the group enters the room at the lowest level of this dungeon. We don’t find what we came for, but we find information telling us what it actually is, and where we can find 2 of the 3 components for it.

<End session>

Not all 3.5 books are created equal. On page 36 the first paragraph of the animal companion sidebar is different depending on the edition but all 3 are 3.5.

http://web.mit.edu/dvp/Public/butters-lululu.pdf
The first says what Dan was saying that animal companions are magical beasts.

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q ... mc&cad=rja
The next edition changed this and the paragraph was shortened to reflect that.

The physical book I have shortens it again saying "A druid's animal companion is superior to a normal of it's kind and has special powers, as described below." That is the reason I did not see what dan was saying.

http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp? ... /20070206a
That is explained in this article which came last and is why I posted it in chat. Under animal companion basics.
"An animal companion remains an animal.

Early versions of the Player's Handbook said that animal companions become magical beasts. According to the errata files, however, animal companions are merely animals."
So animal companions are NOT magical beasts only animals. Not trying to argue just explaining why we saw different things even though we thought we were looking at the same book.

the only real source material you need to worry about is what i as the DM have decided is fair and consistent for the game, and we discussed this in detail months ago. i've heard your arguments at that time, and weighed it against the balance of the game. i made my decision then, and i'm sticking with it. animal companions don't advance in the way normal animals do, and they do not increase in size. they are given alternate leveling rules. so, please don't attempt to address the issue again.

Playing: WarMarshall, NarcanGoat, Doragon, Mace Ironhead, Creepiz, Karlith, Skillcoil (observing)
Time: 12:22 - 6:30

Previously we left the temple and buried our dead. A few nice words are given for the dead (Eryes, Nahsawghee), and then the next morning we find that Meep is dead as well, and Aekrom has abandoned the group.

The group begins discussing their travel options and deciding where to go. Ultimately we decide to head back Riverway to check on the town and maybe procure passage south.

The party volunteers Mittnez to check on the town ahead of everyone else, which results in Riverway’s defenders firing crossbow bolts at him. But eventually the party is recognized and they explain to Atnas what happened.

That night there is a huge party to celebrate and mourn the losses. During the party we meet Otiian, who after speaking with him we invite to join us on our way to Hershal’s Landing

On the way, the party comes across two sailors stranded on some rocks. While attempting to save them, we find they are being prayed upon by Watercats (basically large Cat-Mermaids). While the party managed to defeat two of them before the current takes us away, it isn’t before we lose both the sailors, and Jiggles.
