Post subject:  Twitch.TV.. How to stream?

Hi all,

DJ Anarkros here, Si Radio DJ who sometimes pops on EU daytimes if you haven't heard of me..

During my shows I have discussed wanting for some time to setup a Twitch.tv channel so that I can stream live while DJ'ing.. I also want to add a couple of video cameras onto the screen as well, to give a total of 3 video feeds onto the 1 twitch page..

This could be really easy and therefore some of you will scoff at my newbiness or it may be somewhat complicated, either way rather than just banging my head against a wall and suffering I thought it would be more beneficial if I shared my trials and tribulations so that if any others are considering doing the same, they can read my progress & misfortunes and learn how to do this.

I have been on ADSL 10Mb Down / 812kbs Up for years, just recently I was lucky enough to be moved to fibre optic and now have 307Mb Down and 32Mb Up.. So Finally I have the bandwidth, Video streaming requires a large Upload speed so :-
Step number 1, make sure your connection speed (specifically upload speed) is up to the task.

My Speedtest.net results

Next up, we need to decide on a tool or program to grab my video stream and stream it to twitch, I have for now at least decided to try out OBS or Open BroadcasterSoftware for now, i) its free ii) 1000's of people use it so lots of outside help. OBS can at the time of writing be found at https://obsproject.com/

I should at this point give you a technical rundown of my pc, this way your aware of what I am running and whether if it will support the job at hand, sometimes errors creep in that may be down to hardware, so before we go killing ourselves trying to get things to run, lets make sure the pc is up to the job.

PC Specifications:-
Intel Core i7-3820 CPU @ 3.6Ghz, 4 physical cores, 4 virtual cores.
RAM : 16.0Gb Installed
Windows 10 64 Bit OS
Graphics Card : GeForce GTX690
Display : 3 x 1920x1080p screens viewed as 1 screen of 5760x1080p
Drive C : 2x500Gb Fusion Drives in Raid 0 configuration.
Drive D : 1TB Storage
Drive E : 1TB Storgae
Drive F : Standard DVD Writer/Reader
Network : Realtek PCIe GBE Familly @ 1GB/S direct to router via Cat 6.
Software to be Streamed : Traktor 2 (Licensed copy, running latest version) + 2 webcams

Next step is to get our hands on the latest version of OBS.
I have chosen the windows version 0.657 released 24th of November 2015 as this is latest version at time of writing.

File now Downloaded, not yet installed as I am about to sneak on air..

Part 2.. and thx for the feedback hardcore, may well need to look into DXtory.. for now though need to keep it simple.. although its often easier said that done.

Apologies over not including the pics below in the page, page rules do not allow images over 800 pixels wide, so images are clickable.

Now as I mentioned earlier, my plan is to stream Traktor.. both the screen output to twitch.tv and the audio output to SiRadio.FM encoders. I do not know if I will also stream the audio output to twitch.. honestly Siradio.fm could do without the listener count moving off its player.

Straight off we hit a small stumbling block, Traktor outputs audio as a .ogg format however SiRadio.fm's encoders work on Shoutcast format 128kb/s stereo Mp3. I therefore will use another program called B.U.T.T. - (Broadcast using this tool) which is a free converter that grabs .ogg and streams out as Shoutcast mp3 amongst other formats. B.U.T.T.

B.U.T.T. as the time of writing is open source and can be found here http://butt.sourceforge.net/

So I suppose then its time to open the file I downloaded yesterday
Running the file..

License Agreement

Installing the program

Installed, ready to run

First run of OBS :-

Now at this point, as you can see above I have a complete vanilla install of OBS,.

Going through the settings it appears there is an option to have twitch.tv give a key to OBS which will accept my connection stream, so I need to login to twitch.tv to get that key..

All fine and dandy, and just like the professional that I am, I have forgotten my password...

The Twitch.Tv account I will use you can see at :-

Although obviously, it's not setup yet (at time of writing).. now just let me reset my password.. :)
Ok Password reset.

The Stream key is hiding under Dashboard -> get Stream key.
So Copied my stream key.

Open OBS
pasted Key, and save, although as you can see its giving me a warning about 16:9 settings but early days yet.

Hmm, time for a coffee.

my computer is too old to run OBS ... it won't even open...
...but... I know a couple things about some stuff on twitch.
various overlays & chat-bots & stuff... maybe some other stuff I think XD
